Britney's 2008 VMA Dress To Be Auctioned Off To Help Haiti
While it wasn’t a good day in court for Britney Spears on Friday afternoon, one positive thing did come out of the status hearing of the conservatorship that controls the pop superstar’s estate — they received permission to auction off the sparkly gown Brit wore to the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.
Britney’s father, Jamie Spears and lawyers for the conservatorship were given the go-ahead by the court to sell off the dress to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to earthquake relief in Haiti.
As most people remember, this is the dress Britney wore to show the dramatic turnaround she’d made in her life, exactly one year after she’d embarrassed herself on live TV with a hazy, confused and flabby performance of “Gimme More” to open the 2007 VMAs.
Additionally, the conservatorship was granted permission to sell off various property and assets belonging to Britney that no longer benefit the estate. In going through these assets, Jamie told Commissioner Reva Goetz that he had consulted with his daughter and she had agreed with the decision to sell.
