Britney Spears to quit Simon Cowell's 'X Factor': report

Singer intends to depart from the hit show after only one season and focus on new album, other projects, according to TMZ.

She’s crazy. She’s not crazy enough. … She’s outta here!

That “she” would be singer Britney Spears, who is exiting “The X Factor” after one season as a talent judge, according to a TMZ report.
After weeks that seemed more like centuries of rampant speculation about Spears’ future on the Simon Cowell show, the singer may have just put us all out of her misery by ending the melodrama on a high note.
On its website, TMZ says Spears is fond of Cowell and fellow judge Demi Lovato, but she is an artiste and wants to concentrate on her own music. She may, the website says, even tour after making another album.

Now fans are left to wonder whether Spears truly quit to make her own kind of music, or more darkly, whether she did so to avoid being fired. In the absence of official statements, or even a peep or tweet from La Spears herself, the masses must draw their own conclusions.

Britney Spears has long been rumored to be on the outs with Simon Cowell (left) and her 'X Factor' gig.

To aid the effort, here’s a recap:
The “she’s crazy” camp says the 31-year-old Spears for months exhibited signs of her old, not-so-stable behavior behind the scenes at the show.
"She acts like she has a different contract than everyone else," a source told the Daily News’ Confidenti@l. "She shows up late, she wanders around aimlessly, and she is in her own world. She wasn't ready for this responsibility."
Ah, but the “she’s not crazy enough” camp says the singer lacked the outlandish behavior that once characterized her – the crowning moment being the one in 2007 when she shaved her head.
The Spears that showed up for “The X Factor,” however, was bland for the $15 million she was paid and said “amazing” an absolutely amazing number of times.

Britney recently topped the Forbes list of Top Earning Women in Music 2012.

Then there were the ratings, or lack thereof. The show’s Dec. 20 second season finale was watched by only 9.6 million viewers, down 18 percent from the first season finale.
So did Brit quit or get canned? Hey, while we wait for an official statement, here’s an idea: You be the judge.
