Meet Britney Spears's New Beau: 5 Things to Know About Charlie Ebersol

This is a great week to be Britney Spears

The singer was honored with the key to the Las Vegas Strip, her smash Planet Hollywood residency added more dates, and – the dashing cherry on top – she has a handsome new beau.

The singer, 32, has struck up a new romance with writer and producer Charlie Ebersol, 31. "It's new," a source tells PEOPLE, adding that the pair "are taking it slow." (Ebersol and a rep for Spears did not immediately comment.)

Whether Ebersol is her new steady or a fun autumn bonus remains to be seen, but he definitely has the eligible bachelor thing down!

Here are five things to know about him:

1. He's an Entrepreneur
A television and film producer (and son of former NBC Sports chief Dick Ebersol), Ebersol co-founded The Company, an entertainment business that creates TV shows for both cable and network channels, in 2010. Some of their biggest hits? The Moment, the USA series that helped people jump-start their dream jobs, and TNT's Ron Howard-produced competition series The Great Escape

In 2012, The Hollywood Reporter listed Ebersol on its "Reality Power List," calling him one of the top 50 reality TV producers. And he is also a filmmaker: Notre Dame-educated Ebersol produced and edited Ithuteng (Never Stop Learning), a 2006 documentary about at-risk youth in South Africa.

2. He's a Survivor – and a Hero
In 2004, when Ebersol was 21, he and his family were involved in a plane crash. Along with some of the flight's crew, Ebersol's younger brother, Teddy, died. But Ebersol was able to pull his father from the flaming wreckage, saving him.

"We will miss Teddy, our sweet boy, forever," the family said in a statement at the time of the tragedy. "His wonderful spirit will live on in our family … While our grief is unfathomable, we are so proud of our Charlie … and all of us will forever be inspired by Charlie's courage and bravery."

3. He Is Athletic
Aside from an eclectic crew of Twitter acquaintances – Billy Bush, Joy Behar and Angie Harmon, among others – Ebersol appears pretty tight with cyclist Lance Armstrong. And he can give the pro athlete a run for his money – literally!

The Company's YouTube account posted a video in which Armstrong challenges Ebersol to run around a track in under 70 seconds. Spoiler alert: He does it, and Armstrong calls him – among other things – "badass."

4. He's Close with His Family
Take a gander at his social media accounts and you can tell Ebersol is a family man. From cheering on his dad when he received a recent journalism award ("#deserved!") to helping out at his niece's birthday party, family is clearly a priority in his life.

5. He's Involved
The producer gets active in causes he cares about. Just one example: Earlier this year, Ebersol joined other TV industry execs to support the Got Your 6 campaign, which aims to empower veterans.
